High Octane Activities for Adrenaline Junkies

If a peaceful hike or paddle boating on a lake is too sedate for you, don’t worry. There are plenty of activities here in the Upcountry that will get your heart racing and your adrenaline pumping. If what you’d rather do is jump out of a plane, or drive really fast around a track, or zip through the trees in a harness, this is the place for you.

Car and driving enthusiasts looking for the ultimate driving experience in the ultimate driving machine will find it in Greer at the BMW Performance Driving School, with one- or two-day options, offering plenty of track time to work on cornering, accelerating, and drifting.

There are a couple of options for skydiving in the area: Flying Tigers Sport Parachute Center in Anderson and Skydiving Greenville. Both offer tandem jumping and accelerated freefall skydiving with experienced instructors for the safest possible experience.

Canopy tours and ziplining offer some of the same birds-eye view, but you’re tethered to something that’s attached to the earth, which may be somewhat more reassuring. Chattooga Ridge Canopy Tours, operated by Wildwater in Long Creek/Oconee County, boasts over 19 acres of flying area: zip lines in the trees and across a lake along with sky bridges.

Wildwater, as the name indicates, is primarily known for whitewater rafting, and depending on how adventurous you’re feeling, you can choose from mini-trip, which is suitable for families with younger children; Section III, ideal for novices; or Section IV, a steep section of river featuring falls with such evocative names as Corkscrew and Sock-Em Dog. Wildwater also offers whitewater kayaking lessons, kayak tours, and stand-up paddleboarding. There is lodging on the premises so you can stay there and do it all.

Upstate Paddleboard also offers paddleboard rentals, sunset paddles, and adventure tours up the Saluda River.
